In late Edo period, Yamada Asaemon
whose family buissiness was sword tester gathered their data, transmitted through
generations, into a book called "Kokin Kaji Biko". First he made selection
of swordsmiths who surpassed certain level and then put them into 4 levels. Those
whose works considered to be cut well at the most were called Saijo O-wazamono(13),
and next O-wazamono(22), Ryo-wazamono(58), and Wazamono(93) in order. But Nihonto
is tend to be very sharp and cut well so those who were ranked in any of these
are considerably skillful. |
