2. Kashira
: Fitting that placed at the end of tsuka to prepare for any shock
comes from forward.
3. Tsukamaki
: Tie tsuka up with strap to make easy to hold and also as a safeguard.
Kumihimo is the most popular strap but wisteria vine and leather
strap is also popular, and there are many way to tie up.
4. Samegawa
: Shirk skin to cover tsuka as skid. And the projection around
the center is called *Oyatsubu, the bigger the price higher. Also
it is used to wrap the saya for decoration.
5. Menuki
: Fitting placed at the center of tsuka to make easy to hold and
not to slip.
6. Fuchi :
Fitting placed at the touch of tsuka and tsuba. Fuchi goes with
kashira as a work of art.
7. Tsuba :
Protect the holding hand from blade, and also to adjust the weight
balance of whole sword. But gradually it became a work of art
itself.
8. Kozuka
: Tsuka of knife which placed around sayaguchi. And this knife
was an implement for practical use but gradually artistic quality
had great importance.
9. Kougai
: The implement as a comb and earpick. Gradually became a work
of art itself.
10. Kurigata
: The part where you thread sageo. Made from antler of deer.
11. Sageo
: The cord threaded the kurigata. To fix the saya to obi(belt)
that won't easily fallen off. There are many ways to weave and
the selection of cord is followed each style and whole design.
12. Kaeritsuno
: Projection made in middle of saya . The aim is to catch the
obi(belt) when you pull out the blade so that saya won't come
off at the same time
13. Saya
: Cover of the blade to protect from wet and dust and other things
from outside. Mostly made by lacquering wood and further wrapped
with leather, bamboo and wisteria and so to make it more firm.
14. Sayajiri
: End part of saya.
15. Kojiri
: Fitting to protect sayajiri from kissaki hits.
